The James Madison Field Hockey team is planning to take a team trip to Spain, in the summer of 2024, to experience the amazing opportunity of competing internationally.
The benefits of this trip will extend beyond just field hockey matches as our student-athletes will gain the life-changing experience of being immersed in a different culture. Traveling abroad will contribute to the individual, team, and technical growth of our student-athletes. This kind of exposure, in a new country, will allow our team to tap into something much greater than ourselves and will contribute to our team development in immeasurable ways.
The cohesiveness of traveling as a group will provide a new type of teamwork and accountability, as well as the chance to experience and create irreplaceable memories that will tie our team together for the rest of our lives. Along with the growth of our team connection, being able to compete internationally will grow the skill of each player on this team. Additionally, as the top-ranked JMU varsity team for community service hours, we will be giving back to the local communities we will be immersed in by volunteering with various service projects and organizations.
Your gift, of any amount, will help offset the significant costs associated with this amazing team trip — including travel, accommodations, team building opportunities, and cultural experiences — to benefit our student-athlete experience during our time at JMU and beyond.
While this is a priceless experience for our team and coaches, there is the reality of the expenses ($3,200 per student-athlete) that would ensure the success of this trip.
The James Madison Field Hockey team upholds the standards of academic and athletic integrity, hard work, and philanthropic activity. Every year we rank within the top three for JMU Varsity team grade point averages (GPAs). We also have competed as Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) conference finalists in 2020 and 2021. While competing independently in 2022, we ranked 22nd in the nation — with no conference play.
Volunteering and giving back to the community is a big part of who we are as a team — including annual volunteering with local youth through Purple Pups. Through our engaged efforts and frequent community service events, our team rises by lifting others.
One hundred percent (100%) of funds raised in support of JMU Field Hockey during the Diggin’Dukes campaign immediately go to the JMU Field Hockey Sport Program Fund (restricted-use fund) and benefit the JMU Field Hockey student-athlete experience.
Sport program funds are restricted-use funds that can only be utilized by the individual sport program. 100% of gifts made to sport program funds go to the selected sport program and are 100% tax deductible.
If our goal is achieved, funds that exceed our goal will go to support our trip and any team operational needs during the 2023-2024 season.
If we do not achieve our goal, funds raised during the Diggin’Dukes campaign will go to support our trip and team operational needs during the 2023-2024 season.
Funds are allocated at the discretion of our coaches and administration.
