Uncovering the Possible

The College of Arts and Letters is a vibrant community of change makers, question askers and forward thinkers. Our students, professors and alumni are leading transformation around the world as they wrestle with some of humanity’s most urgent questions.

With your support, historically underrepresented and first-generation Dukes will find open doors as they pursue education at JMU. Students who are passionate about Being the Change will be greeted with new opportunities for hands-on learning in the nation’s capital through the JMU Washington Semester. And dedicated professors will receive the necessary resources to continue tackling the problems and possibilities of our complex, interconnected world—from immigration and social justice to the place of poetic creativity and the challenges of living an ethical and meaningful life—and bringing those discoveries back into the classroom.

Your support today—a gift of any amount—will have a ripple effect: inspiring the strong leaders of today and informing the engaged citizenry of tomorrow.

Arts and Letters Opportunity Fund

Provide scholarships and open doors for academically qualified, under-represented students, first-generation students, and students of modest means through scholarships to study in the College of Arts and Letters.

School of Liberal Arts Legacy Fund

Support research and creative endeavors for professors who open doors and transform student lives with their teaching and mentoring.

JMU Washington Semester Endowment

Increase access to internship opportunities for students with financial need, by providing general support through this endowment. A scholarship from this endowment offsets the costs associated with participating in the JMU Washington Semester, a program that enables students to pursue a full-time internship while taking JMU courses in the nation’s capital.
