Edith J. Carrier Arboretum
Seeding the Next 35 Years! Inspiring outdoor engagement in a woodland sanctuary since 1989.

For the past 35 years, the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, a woodland sanctuary, has served as a public greenspace that features native plant species and promotes knowledge of the natural world through institutional research and educational opportunities geared towards visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

Our team strives to inspire outdoor engagement within the arboretum by serving as a hub for all things relating to the botanical and natural world. Whether you are here to enjoy our vibrant, ever-evolving habitats, or to partake in restoration recreations, there is something for all to appreciate!

In 2024, with your help, we hope to propel the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum into a new era! Our goals include:

  • Add beauty and increase the aesthetics of our garden spaces
  • Create new habitat with more native plantings added to existing and newly landscaped areas
  • Develop more layered plantings for increased resiliency in the woodlands and gardens

The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum is promoting three funds to help you Give Like a Duke and make a difference this Giving Day:

Edith J. Carrier Arboretum: The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum Fund supports programs, garden, and specimen tree plantings, educational signage, and identification signs, student projects, new improvements, garden features, designs, and other seasonal projects.

Edith J. Carrier Arboretum Endowment: The Arboretum Endowment Fund provides economic sustainability for the Arboretum and it operations and development so that the Arboretum can continue supporting future generations of students, both young and old, who benefit from using the grounds here as an outdoor classroom.

At Home in the Woods-Arboretum: The At Home in the Woods Family Garden Fund supports the finishing touches, ongoing programming, and continued care of the renovated and reopened At Home in the Woods Family Garden.
