At the College of Visual and Performing Arts, we give students the freedom to “Create Your Path.” Generous donations towards our student scholarship endowment enable our students to do just that. It opens doors to a world of possibilities in the Arts and Design, allowing them to step confidently into the professional realm or forge their own opportunities for success after JMU.
The impact of donations to the George Sparks Scholarship Endowment is apparent across all areas of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. In the School of Music, students like Haven Kahn, a saxophone performance major, showcase their talents on the global stage, thanks to support from CVPA scholarship funds. In the School of Art, Design, and Art History, your donations can help students gain international exposure, with faculty, alumni, and students exhibiting artwork in Korea and Spain. Meanwhile, the School of Theatre and Dance students and other CVPA students rely greatly on scholarships to continue their studies in the Arts and Design areas. There is nothing more heartbreaking than finding someone who has the abilities, academic success, drive, passion, and positivity to be a great student here, offering them an acceptance, and then having them turn us down because they can't afford to attend. It happens every year.
Donations toward the Dr. George E. Sparks Scholarship College of Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship could mean the difference between disappointed applicants and future graduates. Our students are fierce, multidisciplinary leaders and a testament to the transformative power of philanthropy in shaping their creative futures and enriching the cultural landscape. Together, we can ignite creativity and empower students to “Create Your Path!”
